Since I have a few readers and most of them are also writers, I’ll talk to them first.
Life is full of free options until you choose it wrong.
When writing, you’re drawing or dancing, if not singing, and if you can’t do any of those like me, then writing is your only option.
When I was younger, I always heard from elders that you should go to school, read, or study more to become someone successful.
Usually, those who didn’t do it before would say go read some more books, and you’ll get smarter or get more knowledge.
They are right but wrong. After having two kids (give birth by my wife), I realize something very wrong about modern or not-so-modern in reality is that now kids are learning.
If you ask them to follow along to learn something, it almost never happens, or they have already learned that before elsewhere.
What really gets them to want to learn is how you empower their creativity.
You do that by spending time on what they like to do, as an adult, and redirect them with the clue of what you want them to do more of.
This is the same when you are trying to tell yourself how to learn something new at an older age.
You lose focus easily like a child; if not, you get distracted by the media or your own choices made up until today.
Who can put the most focus on the right task comes out ahead.
Why should you listen to this advice?
My note from Substack:
Most people write their masterpiece when they feel lost but still willing to find the direction of where they are going.
It’s that willpower of searching in the unknown while putting yourself out in the public for the next level of self-awareness.
Everything you do will feel like a challenge, but more like getting to know yourself, the real self that society is making you hide it and go along with everybody else.
Most people are not doing well enough, whether they are happy or not.
What are you conscious of in your life that you want others to know about?
If you are looking for an outlet, then you must learn to express your thoughts without anyone or anything to tell you what to say.
What does writing keep reminding us?
This has nothing to do with right or wrong, but the act itself teaches us to take responsibility for our actions. Many think they can just say something online and hold no responsibility.
If you’re not being yourself online, then you’re wasting time and thinking that you are making progress.
Even if you make some money, the truth is you won’t feel it or enjoy what you’re doing. Consistency is key, but no one can consistently do what they do not like without a bigger reason.
In the end, it turns back to your purpose of why writing in public and how it can help you improve your life’s intention of being present, and how to move forward.
Writing is the only skill that can last a lifetime.
