There are ways to grow out of this unclear path of writing on Medium.
A lot of writers I know are in the same boat with you.
The first thing you need to do is not go out and buy a “how to grow on Medium” ebook for $3.97.
While I’m thinking of writing one, so if you care to wait for mine, since it will be priced at a value no less than what you can obtain from it, like pay whatever you want.
Don’t even think about that master course for $97 or even a coaching lesson for $297. I got all that covered with a prompt with ChatGPT. Just kidding, I don’t know how to use that well.
Let’s talk about the writers who are doing okay in terms of the traction they get. Before that, you need to know what might happen to your article after you publish it.
What you need to know
When you hit publish, there are a few outcomes. (worst to best)
No one read it, with barely 1 person clapping
A few people read it, with a few claps 0–100
Some people read, and there are a few hundred claps
A lot of people read, with decent claps and comments
Look carefully at which stage you’re in and ignore all the advice you have in your mind for 7 seconds.
You’re on your own.
The path that you pick was never easy; in fact, it could be the hardest one out there at the moment.
Writing on Medium has never been so unclear, yet somehow writers are still willing to give it a shot. I mean, there’s no other place that can give you a penny for one read.
So on that note, it’s still fun to play the game of writing on Medium.
Some writers get boosted or go viral, while others don’t even know what they did wrong.
Medium is a reality check on your understanding of what you write and who you are writing it for and to.
Because there can be time when you hit publish and no one read it.
Maybe just the same 3 people that stop by, talk to you, and leave their thank you note.
That alone is worth writing for

Let me explain further since you’re already deep into this article.
Usually, your friends and fans gather up in front of your article, while some might jump, clap, and others may even comment without reading beyond the title.
It’s okay, that’s part of the game. We don’t even need to call them out, but your most loyal user will already give you enough appreciation to keep you going.
You see, you’re still going, and it’s worth dreaming of being seen and heard.
One voice after another, that's how you stack yourself so “high” that there’s no return because no one is going to refund your months or even years of effort.
If you have only started a few weeks ago, please stop yelling at yourself and listen to what others have to say.
Take their wisdom and apply it wherever you can.
No one else can help you when it comes to writing
What you really need to remember is this:
You will feel alone, misunderstood, both in life and online. No one will care about you if you don’t show what you stand for.
It doesn’t even have to be something popular, but people are picking when it comes to what they want to read and relate to.
It’s their time at stake.
You’re asking them to join your thoughts and ideas without asking their permission. It’s mental, psychological, and even spiritual.
Only your words can break through such a scenario.
Remember, all the basic elements are best optimized as well.
