Medium Will Remove Your Meta Articles By March (From the Paywall)
Because they don’t want your unwanted get-rich-quick culture
I guess there are only a few options left for me to get a degree in tech or psychology in a month or less.
Medium will be sending out notifications to writers when they see their meta stories behind the paywall and then begin to remove them in March.
This sounds like a two-week notice before you get fired.
Things are about to get very serious and interesting.
You did notice that they are removing stories about Medium instead of about anything else.
Does that mean that writing is still okay? But try not to relate it to Medium or mention it’s for Medium.
But that does not mean anything directly related to Medium, views, reads, stats, boost, MPP, or any of those keywords will get dinged I guess.
Over time, I think it will get better but during these next two weeks, I can see panic and cheers at the same time.
Since they changed, I’ll have to change from Medium focus to other stuff.
For those who have been exploring new topics, it’s time to pick one and double down.
I’m wondering what about the other making money online article?
Or now that it is not under a paywall soon, will the distribution be finally open to a greater audience?
I’m sure there are more questions that everyone wants to ask.
Like what happens when you write about writing or your experience and you put the word Medium or stats or readers or writers or anything that Medium claims as meta?
Will you get warned that your stories are about to be removed as well?
For the next two weeks, I’ll be busily un-paywalling my 900+ stories and most likely deleting some or will start whenever I can since most of them no longer earn a penny anyway.
For those that want to share their stats, now is the time.
Just remember to cut it by March and shift your focus to something else.
This might sound unpleasant for some new writer who are just getting some traction with sharing their stats and experience on Medium but there are always ways to do it.
I would be interested in seeing what the traffic would be like or else it would be the same as no one can say anything about Tony or what he said since the article is not even distributed.
Time will tell and good luck on your new Medium path.
I think the earnings will be great if what Tony said is true.
Take the recent showing up as a warning of things about to change.
Thanks to Ashok Gehlot for reminding me about the email.

Article two, if I repeat myself just pretend you haven’t read it before.
What Does The New Meta Article Removal Mean to You as A New Writer?
And is Medium still good for you as a starter?
We have met writers from around the globe trying to make their way to the top by writing all kinds of topics but the most common one is writing about Medium and articles related to it.
Within less than two weeks you’ll have to move in with your new strategy.
They say you can still write it but just putting it on the paywall is disallowed.
You can still try and I would like to know what will happen to those who do or are standing in the grey area of the topic of writing.
Since this is the way going forward, naturally topics or articles about writing will slowly be targeted as well.
Or are they really going after the bigger topic and just about Medium as a stepping stone to take that out as well?
We won’t know until everything unfolds next month.
The time is ticking and you don’t have much time left, I have 900+ articles that I need to un-paywall like I said most of them are not even getting 1 single extra view, so unpaywalling will start tonight or whenever I have a couple of minutes.
That’s a lot of clicks for me.
With every change there are plenty of opportunities, just that we can’t not see it until we are things out.
For those who are not writing about Medium, there should be an overall positive impact on earnings if it doesn’t, that means you can’t complain under MPP as well.
The first thing I see is the imbalance that will be coming soon. Other writing-related articles will be on the rise and it could be a new wave of how-to make-money articles on this place or that place.
I would like to see what will Medium do at that point when writing about Medium is replaced by writing about Substack or other social platforms.
Will Medium remove those from the MPP as well?
The most viral article is actually not about Medium but about making money elsewhere.
I think many will go with that route of building something outside of Medium and come here with their community as this is a personal experience-sharing platform.
Since this rule will take effect in March a key reminder is that any article that looks like Meta may be rejected by publications if they are under a paywall, I’m not sure if we are supposed to put the same standard as these are AI-written articles.
Some writers are waiting to report these articles for sure.
I’m sure this will be a fun month coming up soon.

Supporting me can change your life because you are changing mine.
$1 per month ($1 a month means a lot because I’m getting a penny on Medium)
$2 per month (2 double the support)
$3 per month (3 ways to support me, Like, Comment, or Subscribe)
$4 per month (4 you can skip because going 5 wouldn’t hurt)
$5 per month (if you paid full price you are at the top of my world)
Your support is always appreciated.
There's a lot of content on Medium I don't want to read, so I don't. This is a pretty ridiculous move on their end and clearly another scheme to cut costs and also try to hide bad PR
I didn't receive any mail🤔
I have searched many times-primary, promotion, social, spam but there is no such mail.
I have checked my account settings but everything looks fine.
